Chepstow 4.00
Chepstow 4.00 is a Class 4 Handicap Chase over just under 3 miles and we can't start without mentioning one of our all time favourites PADDY THE OSCAR who won at big odds for us more than once in the past few seasons. He is 16 now, a victim really of the unseasonally firm Going in the Autumn and this campaign has not really got going for him. He'll likely need the run, race prominently and set it up for something else. We will track him as if we get some Good to Soft or softer later in the Spring never discount him. The head of the market looks strong and both SANDHURST LAD and ALBERTOS DREAM are of great interest but there is another that really catches the eye here.
LAC SACRE is also something of a veteran, but it won this race in 2017, was runner up last year, clearly handles the undulations and has ideal conditions and a nice handicap mark. Drops slightly in Class here, and in trip, and both seem wise decisions, in a moderate field, where of the rest only Newton Lad rates a danger (an in running play if it is on 4 legs 3 fences out as prone to fall) the price for LAC SACRE is too good to ignore.
