Placespotter - Musselburgh 3.00 8 Improved - each way @ 15/2
"There is a competitive field of 10 here and the obvious starting point is the fact that
it is a track that can suit prominent runners but that those who run prominently can
sometimes go off too fast. The form of Kentucky Star and Shantou Tiger ties in nicely
with each other and I would normally expect the top weight Kentucky Star to again
get the better of than battle, but the trainer form of the top weight is an unknown.
Shantou Tiger likes to "get on with it" and that might just pull the favourite Pulpitarian
along a bit too fast, and out of its comfort zone, a nice winner last time here and
Lucinda Russell says Pulpitarian has "a touch of class" but this is a bit of a step up
for it, a better field than last time. Wake Your Dreams is another front runner to
add to the mix and thought that the pace here might be too fast for comfort.
I always worry about Brian Ellison runners, I think he is the Northern equivalent of Gary Moore,
I will be as polite as I can be and call them "cads" - handicap burglars, if you like,
always up to something! So that leaves me with IMPROVED!
IMPROVED won last time out on the 17th February; tipped by The Advisor for us;
he ran well that day, returning to form and is probably the most tactically versatile.
With some of the others running off career high marks; or marks they struggle
to win from, IMPROVED is actually going back to a mark it has been very
competitive off before. An easy right handed track suits, the excellent Thomas
Dowson again takes 7lbs off and with the yard still in form, I think he is the
value of the race at 15/2. I expect a fast pace and for IMPROVED to stalk
and pass tiring front runners up the straight.
